About the Idiopathic Hypersomnia Awareness Week:

Idiopathic Hypersomnia Awareness Week (IH Awareness Week), 1–7 June, champions global awareness and understanding of Idiopathic Hypersomnia (IH). It empowers the IH community to share their experiences and elevates their voices.

Hypersomnolence Australia first launched the IH Awareness Week in 2013. Since its inception, the IH Awareness Week has united the IH community across 15 countries, fostering awareness and promoting education about IH. The IHAW has translated awareness infographics into 13 different languages.

The IH Awareness Week starts on June 1st and will conclude on June 7th, 2025.

Join the Idiopathic Hypersomnia community to spread awareness and celebrate the Worldwide Idiopathic Hypersomnia Awareness Week, 1-7 June 2025. The IH Awareness Week champions global awareness and understanding of Idiopathic Hypersomnia (IH). It empowers the IH community to share their experiences and elevates their voices. Together we hope this collaborative action will accelerate the diagnosis process, advance research to find the cause, and reduce stigma.

Did you know that Idiopathic Hypersomnia (IH) is a long-lasting (chronic) sleep disorder of the brain? IH affects the brain’s ability to control sleep and wakefulness. IH causes excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS). This means an inability to stay awake or strong need to sleep during the day. It happens even with enough sleep the night before.

People with IH often struggle to wake up. They spend most of their day either sleeping or thinking about, craving, or fighting the urge to sleep. This can severely impact their quality of life.
