What is a Hypersomnolence Australia Supporter?
Our supporters are people who are grateful to have an organisation that represents idiopathic hypersomnia and people living with IH. Our supporters know that HA is a not for profit charity that receives no funding so they want to help make sure that HA can continue to do the work it does. Our supporters are people living with IH, parents, family members, partners, and friends of people living with IH. They are also professionals who know how important it is to have an organisation that is so dedicated to people living with IH.
To become a Hypersomnolence Australia Supporter we ask that you make a minimum tax-deductible donation of $25 annually (if you can give a little more that would be awesome!).
We understand that not everyone can donate $25 annually. Becoming a supporter for one year does not commit you to donate every year. How often and how much you donate is entirely up to you. However to receive discounts on our paid content and events supporters are expected to make a minimum $25 donation in the year that they access the content or attend the event.*
What do supporters get for their donation other than a fully registered not for profit charity that specifically represents idiopathic hypersomnia?
HA created and hosts the annual Worldwide Idiopathic Hypersomnia Awareness Week (IHAW). Your donation will ensure that HA not only continues to exist, it will also enable us to continue to host the IHAW. Worldwide awareness and recognition of idiopathic hypersomnia is an important goal of HA's but it is a big job and we do need support to continue to do this at least at the level we currently do. With your support, we can make each year even better than the last.
Our supporters that make a minimum $25 donation receive periodic news updates and also discounts on any of our paid content including events* such as the Idiopathic Hypersomnia and Narcolepsy Education Day.
Did you know that giving to a good cause is good for your health? Studies have shown that when people give to charities, it activates regions of the brain associated with pleasure, social connection, and trust, creating a “warm glow” effect. You can read more here.
What better way to get that warm glow than supporting a charity that supports you or someone you love?

OTHER WAYS YOU CAN GET INVOLVED
Hypersomnolence Australia’s (HA) commitment to providing information, support, and advocacy for Idiopathic Hypersomnia and associated disorders of hypersomnolence throughout Australia is strong but we can not do this alone. If HA has helped you, your family or friends, or you are a sleep health professional and you believe as we do, that HA is a necessary service for people with Idiopathic Hypersomnia and associated disorders of hypersomnolence, providing a donation will help us continue into the future.
No amount is too small, every dollar is greatly appreciated as it helps to ensure we can continue to provide quality information and support to patients, carers, and the health care community free of charge.
All donations over $2 are tax deductible.
You can donate via our PayPal Giving Fund or via Direct Deposit to ANZ Bank BSB 014286 Account No. 210329584 in the name of Hypersomnolence Australia (please use your name as the reference).
You can also send a cheque to PO Box 5278 Algester Qld 4115.
If you donate via Direct Deposit and you would like a receipt please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you would like your donation to be used specifically for the Idiopathic Hypersomnia Awareness Week please email us and let us know.
Why is your gift so important?
Hypersomnolence Australia does not charge membership and we do not receive any funding. HA is completely funded by the community. Your donation will help us continue to advocate for the needs of people with Idiopathic Hypersomnia and associated disorders of hypersomnolence and to provide support and information through our support services and ongoing education and awareness programs. It will also ensure that we can continue to host the Worldwide Idiopathic Hypersomnia Awareness Week. A worldwide initiative that Hypersomnolence Australia started in 2013.
Facebook fundraisers are a great way to help raise funds. All proceeds raised will go directly to Hypersomnolence Australia through the PayPal Giving Fund. Click here to set up your Facebook Fundraiser. Click on "select charity" and type in Hypersomnolence Australia. If you have any trouble setting up your fundraiser, please feel free to contact us for assistance.
HOLD A FUNDRAISER
Get some friends together and host an event. Whether you host a sausage sizzle, cake sale, trivia night, organise a walkathon or you would like to donate the proceeds of your next garage sale, your fundraising will make a big difference. Contact us and let us know about your event and we will do what we can to help promote it.
BECOME A CORPORATE SUPPORTER
While Hypersomnolence Australia is a Charity, our fund-raising philosophy is one of mutual benefit, not a hand out. If you would like to know more about how your business can benefit by becoming a corporate supporter, please contact us for more information.
LEAVE A GIFT IN YOUR WILL
People all over Australia benefit from the work we do. Much of this would not be possible without the support of our donors. After making sure family and friends are taken care of, there is comfort knowing that your legacy lives on. To download a document outlining the wording of your gift, please click here.
